1986 Mustang – I'd Like to Change the Front End to the "Face Lift" of 87 – 93 How Hard?

I purchased a 1986 mustang gt 5.0 yesterday and i love the car but im not to fond of the front end. I like the 87 – 93 look and i was wondering what I would need to get in sheet metal (bumper obviously ) what about fenders and hood would those need to be replaced also? and how hard would this be to do so?

As previously stated for you change the front clip, that the easiest! But also know 87 to 90 are different than 91-93, the had bigger fender wells. They are different. I would think that the bumper cover and fender extensions are all that’s really needed with the bumper of course. I went to the one piece headlights and wonder why ford did not do that all along.

DO NOT DO THIS! If you wanted an ’87 to ’93 nose then go buy a Mustang from one of those years! The 1985 and 1986 four-eyed cars are getting harder and harder to find! Don’t butcher the four-eyed!

Don’t pay any attention to the Nazis telling you to leave it alone. The fenders, hood, and bumper cover can all be swapped.

Leave the ugly stuff to the people that love the ugly.

Cellos is gay. Ban Helmut Roner.

    And I say Woooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just buy an aero nosed car. they are cheap enough these days, that this swap doesn’t make sense anymore (not that it ever did), but the "four eyed" cars are getting harder and harder to find. email me details, and maybe I’ll buy your car for a premium. I’ve been looking for an 86 GT for months.

While this is your decesion, besides the hood, bumper cover, header panel, wiring mods, the fender extensions are different, the belt moulding will not match, including the rear bumper cover, and you will also need paint work. That being said I too would just sell my car and buy what I want, it will be easier in the end than doing an aero conversion.

Silly nOOb, you could have just bought a aero nose car. Ignore Craig W., he’s Cellos.

Not fond of the front end? You should have bought an ’87-’93 Mustang then dude. They’re more abundant anyway. Do you even know what you got? Leave it as is and sell it to someone who ‘appreciates’ late model 4 eye Mustang’s.

Don’t forget the lambo doors and side opening hatch while your ruining it.

Dude, leave it alone. There aren’t too awfully many 1986′s around.

definetly a good idea, I personally hate that look. I’m no expert, but I’d say being as they’re on the same frame it should be as simple as getting different parts. Why not just take it to a good body shop and have them do it?

I hate the look how it is. Definetly a good investment to pick up a newer front end, the current look is totally cellos.

and in regards to what the guy above me said, yes it’s true and there aren’t a lot running around. For the same reason you don’t see alot of yugos running around.

Dude, don’t be Cellos. It’s YOUR car,do what you want to do with it.Granted, there’s not a lot of ’85-’86′s out there, but it’s what YOU want, not the masses! To answer you question,it’s not a hard conversion, but personally,I’d leave it alone. You’re looking at some rewiring as well. Corral.net lounge FTMFW!!!!!!!!

Hood, front bumper cover, light assemblies with wiring, fenders, misc bolts/nuts/washer/hardware, fog light assemblies, etc. More work and cost especially if the paint color doesn’t match. Sell the car and get the 87 up. Besides the 87 up has better heads than the 86 which are more restrictive, the 85 heads were better than the 86(if I remember correctly). Depending on where you live there should be plenty of nice newer Fox’s around for cheap.

With the price of aero cars not being an issue I would not go thorough the hassel of changing it. It really is easier (time, money, and hassel) to just buy an aero car with body, wiring, etc. already in place.

Go get an 87-93 if you want to ruin a perfectly good 4-eye. Sell it to someone who will appreciate it.

changing the clip to an aero nose will get you shot by someone that knows cars and appreciates them leave it a four eye or maybe you might get into a fender bender because you destroyed the car..

i looked into doing this at one time, and ended up rejecting the idea. while it isnt hard to make the change, since everything interchanges fairly easily, it just makes more sense to sell the one you have and buy an aeronose mustang. the amount of time you are going to spend swapping the front end pieces, and finding the needed trim pieces and installing them, it just makes sense to buy one instead of modifying what you have.

    its your choice though.

DON’T DO IT!!!! It’s way to much work and it will never look right. You might get it apart and realize how much work it is and it will remain in pieces. The you have a car that will never see the road again and just think of how much money you will have wasted.

So what were you thinking when you bought the 86? "Man, I love the way the 87-93 Mustangs look. Oh, look, amid the 50 Aero Mustangs on Craigslist, there’s an 86! I’ll go buy that, and then buy the Mustang I really want, but take that car apart to make the one I didn’t like look like the one I do want that I just bought!"
