This Seems Like a Really Obvious Question, But…?

How do you get food off your kid when they’re done eating?
For one, he doesn’t want to sit and take it.
And secondly, it always seems like there’s a sticky residue left on his face and hands (and arms, legs, feet, toes, head, etc.)
Plus he gets stuff stuck in his neck rolls and he never wants to lift his head so I can wipe them out.
Ugh. So. What can I do?
I just use a wet washcloth normally..does anyone do anything different? I’d really rather not give him a bath after every meal.
Lol.
Thanks:)

Pondering how one cleans out neck rolls IS pretty philosophical. Hmm…
No one is getting thumbs downs from me btw.
Baby#2 (aka Debbie Downer): This was a lighthearted question, let’s keep it that way. :)
But you asked so..my son is 7 months. I don’t mind cleaning him up, I’d just like ideas to do it more efficiently. These ladies are giving me good ideas.

    Hi,
Good question by the way.. Neck rolls are just fascinating things aren’t they lol.. Indication of a healthy baby anyway.

I use Huggie’s baby wash cloths they are fantastic. If you cant find any at ur supermarket go onto the huggies website and they will send some for free. They soap up with a little bit of water and then I wipe him dry with a dry face washer. Oh and they smell Davine Lavender Mmm sign Im getting old maybe (my grandmothers favourite smell).

    Hope that helps.

I always just have a damp paper towel when I feed him. You are doing the right thing…

I am a pretty deep thinker… that is why I answered first.. :) Cleaning neck rolls… who knew it was such a brainy topic?

i just use a wet wash rag.

my take is, im the boss, nt my son. if he needs his hands and face washed, then they’ll be washed. sure he doesnt always like it, but it gets done anyway.

I use baby wipes — the ones that don’t have alcohol or strong chemicals. They work great. We keep a packet of baby wipes in every room in the house to help clean up spit up, food messes, etc.

Your only other alternative is to feed him with the washcloth in one hand and the spoon in the other, catching drips as they come. Otherwise, you just have to keep trying to clean those cute neck rolls.

I usually grab the baby wipes or a wet wash cloth. If Aisling manages to get food everywhere, I’ll take her from her high chair straight to the bath.

And for the neck rolls, I usually lay Aisling on the floor, distract her with a toy over her head and while she’s looking up at the toy not paying attention to me, I’ll attack the food in her neck rolls lol

I use Wet Ones after every messy meal with Georgia. They have an antibacterial kind that is for face and hands. Completely safe.

Noah fusses when he’s done eating and I’m wiping him off. I just hurry and do it and it’s over in a matter of a minute or two. I just use a couple of his wipes. With his neck(if he’s not cooperating) I hold something up above his head and take a quick swipe at it before he notices what I’m doing!

I really don’t know any other way. If I try to gently push his chin up he fights me. Who knew little boys could be so stinkin’ strong??

I use to use a warmed wipe for my son’s hands and neck(If it can get poop off a bum, it can get sticky food off his neck/hands). For his face I use a warm wash cloth with just water. He doesn’t like it when I wash him, but I insist. He actually holds his hands up now when I come with the wipes, but hates the face cleaning.
I just keep trying until he lets me.

I just use baby wipes to clean his face, neck, and hands when I am at home. When on the go we just bought these awesome wipes called "Wet Ones" –they are hands and face wipes. They also come in antibacterial, which I love for after he has touched something or people have been touching him I like to wipe his hands and for things like grocery carts and things like that.

How old is your son? Maybe you should feed him if it bothers you that he’s a messy eater.

I always use wet wash cloths… make him sit, and eventually he realized he was fighting a losing battle, although he still fights sometimes the more I played the boss role the more he realized he needed to get wiped off. Just hang in there, the older they get the less messy they get.

I do the same with my son, sometimes I use wipes but only for his face and hands. I stick to the wash cloth for his neck. He’s a chubby little guy and hates having his neck cleaned, one of my brothers usually distracts him with something to get him to look up and then I can clean him, but I gotta be fast. He’s 8 months old.

Use baby wipes, they’re not as rough as paper towels. I wash their hands first, then as I’m washing their face they have a tendency to tilt their head back. With the head back it’s easier to wash the rolls around their neck. Kids don’t like their face washed for some reason, but it has to be done.

    LOL… I know…being a mommy can be so hard…I know…

with my little one, i would put one of my small t-shirts on him and use that as a giant bib of sorts, as for the neck rolls, my son doesn’t like to lift his head much either especially if i force him to, so what end up doing is distracting him with one of his favorite toys held over his head with one hand so he looks up and with my other quickly take the wet cloth and clean as fast as i can…

    good luck to you…

I loved giving sink baths! So darn easy.
Now I take Sophie outside to our patio and hose her down if she gets messy. :) She loves it! LOL it’s always hot here too, so it’s no big deal.
